UNI GAMES

When I was in my first year at Uni,
I went to something called Uni Games.

I “played” football.
It was my first and last time at Uni Games.
Here’s why…

Of an evening, before we’d go out and get sauced
we’d report back on how the teams across all the sports had gone that day.
We would also vote on a few awards.
One of those awards was the ‘D!ck of the Day.’
I was the only person to win it twice.

The first time for spewing on myself before making it to the first pub on a pub crawl.

The second, I was ejected from a venue for tapping my own beer and then using a fella named Zigus’s uni ID to get back in.

I was subsequently dacked by the same friend who dared me to tap my own beer. Before being removed with pants around ankles by the same security guard.

Turns out, borrowing someone’s ID was a big no no along with theft and indecent exposure, so the next morning, still half pissed, I had to go to a tribunal (uni court) with our advisor to plead my case for not only getting kicked out of Tamworth,
but potentially losing my place at Uni.

I survived.
But was banned from playing sport or going out for the rest of the week.
So I had some quiet beers by myself while everyone went hell for leather on the last night.

The irony is I didn’t change these antics for another 11 years.
I don’t regret them.
They were entertaining / sometimes character-building.

Still, I could have done with less of them over the years.
For the past 8 years I’ve been drinking in another way.
And not to win awards,
just to remember the fun more often than not.

and I feel like Icarus has overcooked it with his mindful drinking goblet.
