The More than Money equation for Regenerative Business… plus beards
I roll out of bed at 530 this morning, get our toothbrushes, layer ‘em up, roll back into bed.
Rinse, Repeat.
6:20 we re-roll out of bed to hit the beach and I immediately start to attempt to process what the feck I’m going to write about today. I promised the other 11 parts of the integral accounting equation — FFS.
Each morning, we (my partner Jacqui and I) have a ritual post bed roll, where we go to the beach, watch the sunrise, and do our GETs.
Our GETs are the three questions we ask each other, each morning, without fail:
G- What are you Grateful for today?
E- What can you get Excited about today?
T- What’s the one thing you are Taking action that will make today a success?
It GETs you into a GrEaT place.
Lame but it really is.
However…
There’s a little part of the joyous experience that irks me a little.
I spend a lot of time trying to design fun systems to empower people to transition their mindsets and actions.
People and institutions pay me good Robert (‘Dinero’ — Spanish for Money) to come and speak about Vice Optimisation, adding Frothy Conversations into their routines and even the odd yarn on ‘Intentional Rabbit Holing’, but there’s one thing that rules supreme across all of my workshops.
GET
I slide it into everything because I know how well received it is.
And pretty much everyone says,
“Benny, I loved your workshop, especially that GET thing, I do it everyday now.”
♫ Whatabout me?!?!?♫
Not Shannon Noll the band ‘Moving Pictures’ version.
If you sang Shannon Noll, go back and do it again.
So well played Jacqui, you win this round / I love you.
And just to flesh it out or shine a light on it.
Put those together and it’s a popular sex toy made famous in the 90’s……..
The E is the most powerful! Coincidentally also made famous in the 90’s.
Because while the majority of the half-woken world is fleshlighting to G ‘a practice of gratitude’ and our hyper-productive hustle culture graduates are Taking action all of the place.
Getting E ‘excited’ is something we often forget about.
It’s easy to be miserable or project excitement to Friday when work is “finished” or that “holiday” from work that’s coming up.
So E is important for making sure there’s a moment for you to cherish THAT day.
And if you can’t find one, think harder and create one. It can be as simple as a conscious breath…
Conscious breath = Micro Plug / Micro-hint at The Project!
So my E this week was I was Excited to go see Ryan and Darren to practise describing the 11 other things I promised.
I said sorry to Jacqui and bounced from our beach walk a little early to head down the coast 20minutes for a surf with Ryan.
Ryan has a strong beard and froths on most of the things I do.
On the beach as we did up wetsuits I forgot, then remembered, to stretch.
The way you do when your mate is a medical professional (Ryan’s a radical Chiropractor) and you forget that he doesn’t really give a fuck, but then remember that my Chiro is his mate too, so maybe it’ll get back to him that I haven’t been stretching before surfs and then absolutely without a doubt I’ll be a cooked chook!!!
Amidst the spiralling bullshit in my brain, I tried to explain the 12.
I think I did an OK job, but wished I’d written this blog on it first… If we ever get there…
Patience is a Virtue best served without signal.
After the surf, I was onto my third Frothy conversation for the morning (even a lot for me) with another bearded legend, Darren, who is more in the ‘rusted designer stubble’ category.
They say that thing about the 5 people you hang around with, so my catfish beard should be filling in any moment now.
As we wondered across the Tallebudgera Creek Bridge as we often do in conversation. I attempted again to explain this experiment and the Synergistic accounting.
Darren is a radical mind body coach so we riffed on models of excellence and I used the reference of Patagonia, the company, as a pretty good example for The Project to try to explain it
Again, wished I’d written this, but here I am now writing it and I’m still oddly nervous about fucking it up… Like reverse parking on your Uni town’s main street when you’ve just got your license and your mates are in the car. And you fuck it up three times and have to swap driving seats with your mate so he can park it and you never live it down.
So for my next frothy conversation I’ll most likely stumble and just send them this link. But the more I think about it and attempt to explain it the better.
Please note this is from the brilliant mind of Christine McDougall at Syntropic.world and the full version is further in depth but this is my go at simplifying it a little.
I’ll also input some examples from what I have to put toward the project and what I expect to receive. This is Transparency to the max IMO.
So here are my version of the 12 domains of Synergistic Accounting:
To start, hold in your heart that the 12 domains are made up of six for contribution (Gift) and six for what you expect in return for this contribution (Receive).
That makes it half the comprehending done already :D And what a beautiful balance straight off the Punter Ponting pull shot.
GIFT
ONE: MATTER — THINGS YOU PHYSICALLY OWN, LOOK AFTER OR ARE A PART OF THAT YOU HAVE THE ABILITY TO GIFT TO THE PROJECT?
My example: Computers / A rooftop overlooking the ocean / Surfclub space in QLD / Party shirts
TWO: CURRENCY — WHAT FUNDS CAN YOU GIFT TO THE PROJECT?
My example: $5k cash:) Potential Grants and access to crowdfunding network
THREE: TOOLS, DIVERSITY, NETWORKS — WHAT CAN YOU GIFT?
My example: Adobe Skills, Intermediate Spanish, facilitating circle discussions, Reunion & Syntropic World networks.
FOUR: MY SHAREABLE KNOWLEDGE —WHAT ARE YOU Beginner / Intermediate / Master IN?
My example:
First Australian storytelling — Beginner
Flowstate and Mindset coaching — Intermediate
Vice Optimisation — Master.
PS. I have a joke that I’m the number one voice in Vice Optimisation across the world. At present, I think I’m the only person using the term ;)
FIVE: WARM DATA — PERSONAL SKILLS LIKE LOVE, CARE, EMPATHY YOU HAVE TO GIVE?
My example: I used to fly into everything. Now I can bring dilation of pace. I’ve found more composure and can listen / offer assistance when needed.
SIX: WELLBEING AND WEALTH — HOW ARE YOU STAYING AWAKE AND BUILDING STUFF?
My Example: Frothy empowering conversations and designing regenerative practices and systems with good humans.
RECIEVE
SEVEN: MATTER — THINGS YOU NEED?
My example: A van and a tiny home/ office on a beautiful piece of land we can honour.
EIGHT: CURRENCY — WHAT FUNDS DO I EXPECT TO RECEIVE FROM THE PROJECT?
My example: $150k by the end of phase one (See above and be ambitious)
NINE: TOOLS, DIVERSITY, NETWORKS — WHAT DO I EXPECT?
My example: Cutting edge diagnostic technology to track my bio-metrics for deeper learning.
TEN: MY SHAREABLE KNOWLEDGE — WHAT ‘KNOW HOW’ DO I EXPECT TO RECEIVE?
My example: Wisdom of the crowd. To ethically source consensual data to improve the project and it’s experience. To co-create the future together.
ELEVEN: WARM DATA — PERSONAL SKILLS LIKE LOVE, CARE, EMPATHY THAT I EXPECT TO RECEIVE?
My example: Physical connection with the current humans and emerging humans in the project and the wild array of emotions that come with that. Good and Bad.
TWELVE : WELLBEING AND WEALTH — WHERE IS MY WEALTH AND WELLBEING AND WHAT DO I EXPECT TO RECEIVE?
My example: With the connection above (human) comes everything I need and finding rhythm in working on the project in sprints and wanders.
PS. Not sure what a Wander is but it feels like a pretty cool way to balance out sprints on a project.
That’s enough for today, but you can see how having these conversations up front can make a project more transparent from the get go.
The current system seems to be that we just look at the front of the house where we can see Money in Money out. This version gives you a helicopter fly round, and what a ride.
